Drake Purchases Rights to Popular UK Crime Drama ‘Top Boy’

Before being where he is now in the world of music, Drake had a budding career in television on the program ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation.’ With the occasional film cameo here and there, Drake has had relatively rare appearances on the big screen, which is about to change. After acquiring rights to the UK hit, ‘Top Boy,’ the rapper has revealed his plans of jumping back into acting, with a starring role on the show.

With the fate of the show being in limbo after it was cancelled last year, the show has found a new home on the popular streaming platform Netflix. A producer on the show has shared that Drake will be playing a crucial part not only behind the scenes, but also as an actor. With his previous experience on television, this seemed like the next logical step.

“Drake misses acting, so naturally he wanted to star on the show, which of course we couldn’t deny,” shared Ashton Walton, a producer on the show. “We had good conversations and we’re still in the process of creating something, but he’s going to be a great fit.”

Drake won’t be the only musician starring in the show, as frequent friend and collaborator Skepta will be joining the shows cast as well.

A release date has yet to be given, but it is expected that it will be hitting Netflix sometime next year.
